Fun Games to Teach Multiplication

Multiplication is essential mathematical concept that forms the foundation for various mathematical operations. It’s an important in concept which helps us do lots of stuff, like adding up big numbers faster and figuring out problems. Teaching kids multiplication early is key because it helps them get better at math and thinking things through. Plus, knowing multiplication helps with everyday things like money, measuring things, and seeing how things fit together in the world. It can be a little difficult concept for kids to grasp, but with the right approach and different fun approaches, it can become an enjoyable learning experience.

Here are some creative games and activities to help children understand and master multiplication:


1. Multiplication Bingo:
Create Bingo cards with multiplication problems instead of numbers.
Call out multiplication questions, and kids tick mark/circle the correct answers on their cards or simply point it.
The first to get a line or full card shouts “Bingo!” Or shows the “Bingo” card.


2. Multiplication War:
Divide cards evenly among all the players, face down.
Each player flips two cards and multiplies them.
The player with the highest product wins the round and collects all cards.


3. Multiplication Hopscotch:
Draw a hopscotch grid with multiplication problems in each square.
Kids solve the problems as they hop through the grid.
Use chalk or tape on the floor for indoor or outdoor play.


4. Multiplication Memory:
Create a set of cards with multiplication problems and their answers.
Place them face down and take turns flipping two cards to find matches.
The player with the most matches wins.


5. Multiplication Relay Race:
Divide kids into teams and assign each team a set of multiplication flashcards.
One player from each team runs to the flashcards, solves one, and returns to tag the next player.
The first team to finish wins.


6. Multiplication Art:
Provide kids with grids or graph paper.
Assign each number in a multiplication table a different color.
Kids color in the grid according to the multiplication table, creating a colorful pattern.


7. Multiplication Scavenger Hunt:
Hide objects around the house or classroom with multiplication problems written on them.
Kids find the objects and solve the problems to earn points, stickers or prizes.


8. Multiplication Story Problems:
Create story problems that require multiplication to solve.
Encourage kids to draw pictures or act out the scenarios to help visualize the problems.


9. Multiplication Fact Race:
Time kids as they race to complete a multiplication fact worksheet.
Encourage friendly competition and offer rewards for personal best times.


10. Multiplication Karaoke:
Write catchy songs or rhymes that teach multiplication facts.
Kids can sing along while memorizing their times tables. For example- something like five little monkeys.
