NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OPEN SCHOOLING (NIOS) AND INDIVIDUALS WITH ADITIONAL NEEDS: PART 2

The previous blog had shed light on NIOS and provided a brief overview of the Open Basic Education program. Today’s blog will look at Secondary and Senior Secondary program under NIOS.
The SECONDARY COURSE under NIOS is equivalent to class 10. For a certification, a student has to successfully pass 5 subjects (including 1 or 2 languages from Group A, and 3 subjects from Group B).
**NOTE: Total Subjects Required to Pass for Certification is 5**
LANGUAGES UNDER GROUP A: Choose any 1 or 2 languages
Hindi (201), English (202), Bengali (203), Marathi (204), Telugu (205), Urdu (206), Gujarati (207), Kannada (208), Sanskrit (209), Punjabi (210), Assamese (228), Nepali (231), Malayalam (232), Odia (233), Arabic (235), Persian (236), Tamil (237), Sindhi (238), Indian Sign Language (230) **
SUBJECTS UNDER GROUP B: Choose 3 or 4 subjects
Social Science (213), Economics (214), Business Studies (215), Psychology (222), Indian Culture & Heritage (223), Accountancy (224), Entrepreneurship (249)
The following subjects have both theory and practical:

PLEASE NOTE: Those subjects with double asterisk (**) marks, can be opted by individuals who are Hearing Impaired (Indian Sign Language under Languages, and Natyakala under Indian Knowledge Tradition)
The SENIOR SECONDARY Course under NIOS Is equivalent to Class 12. For a certification, a student has to successfully pass 5 subjects (including 1 or 2 languages from Group A, and 3 subjects from Group B).
**PLEASE NOTE: Total Subjects Required to Pass for Certification is 5, although students can opt for additional subjects as well**

The following subjects have both theory and practical:

Besides these, there is a provision of Integration of Vocational courses with the academic subjects in both Secondary and Senior secondary levels. The next blog will shed light on that aspect.
