Life is a Video Game: My 7-Year-Old son Yuvaan’s Wisdom
Recently when I sat with my 7-year-old son Yuvaan, for his exams’ preparation and urged him to finish his practice test, as the clock ticked away, and only 5 minutes were left in the given time, he looked up at me with a mischievous grin and said, “Don’t worry, Mumma. We can reset the clock, restart this level and play it again.” His words struck a chord in me, and suddenly, I realized that life is indeed like a video game.
A dynamic, complex notion that may seem simplistic at first, but holds profound truth. Just as a video game presents us with challenges, obstacles, and opportunities for growth, life itself is an ever-changing journey.
In video games, we progress through levels, each with its unique challenges and obstacles. Similarly, in life, we navigate through various stages – childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age – each with its own set of trials and triumphs. We have to complete tasks within a certain time frame, and if we fail, we can restart the level and try again.
Yuvaan’s comment made me realize that life is similar. We face various challenges and obstacles, and we have to navigate through them within a certain timeframe. And when we fail, we can learn from our mistakes and try again. For instance-
– Meeting deadlines at work or school
– Completing tasks within a certain timeframe
– Overcoming obstacles and challenges in our personal and professional lives.
Moreover, in a video game, we assume roles and play characters, each with its strengths and weaknesses. In life, we play multiple roles – parent, child, friend, partner, colleague – each requiring us to adapt and grow.
In video games, we collect power-ups and rewards that help us progress through the levels. In life, we experience moments of joy, love, and accomplishment that energize and motivate us to keep moving forward. These power-ups and rewards can come in many forms, such as:
– A good grade or a promotion
– A supportive friend or family member
– A new skill or hobby
Video games are full of obstacles and challenges that test our skills and resolve. Life is no different. Life, too, throws us curveballs and uncertainties that force us to adapt, learn, and evolve. Like-
– Failures and setbacks
– Uncertainties and unknowns
– Difficult people and situations
But what about when we fail or make mistakes? In a video game, we can simply restart or try again. In life, we don’t have the luxury of a “reset” button. However, we can learn from our mistakes, pick ourselves up, and keep moving forward. Start anew, afresh at any age, any point of time. We can:
– Try new approaches and strategies
– Seek help and guidance from others
– Persevere and keep moving forward
Yuvaan’s wisdom has given me a new perspective on life. I realize that life is indeed like a video game, full of challenges, obstacles, and opportunities for growth.
As I reflect on my son’s comment, I am reminded of the importance of resilience, perseverance, and adaptability in life.
Life is like a video game, and we are the players. We can choose to see challenges as obstacles or opportunities for growth. We can collect power-ups and rewards, and restart the clock to try again. And, most importantly, we can learn from our mistakes and keep moving forward.
So, let’s play this game of life and make it an amazing adventure!
