Inclusive education is a fundamental right for all students, including those with disabilities. The concept of inclusive education emphasizes the importance of creating a learning environment that values diversity, promotes equality, and supports the unique needs of every student. Despite significant progress in recent years, students with disabilities continue to face numerous barriers in accessing quality education.

The Current State of Inclusive Education
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) recognizes the right to education for all individuals, including those with disabilities. Article 24 of the UNCRPD emphasizes the importance of inclusive education, stating that students with disabilities should be provided with an education that is tailored to their individual needs and abilities.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 15% of the world’s population lives with some form of disability. In India, the Census of 2011 reported that approximately 2.21% of the population lives with disabilities.

Challenges Faced by Students with Disabilities
Students with disabilities face a range of challenges in accessing education, including:

1. Physical Barriers: Many schools lack accessible infrastructure, such as ramps, elevators, and accessible restrooms, making it difficult for students with physical disabilities to access the school building.

2. Lack of Accessible Materials: Educational resources and materials are often not available in accessible formats, such as visual schedules and aids, braille, audio, or digital formats, making it difficult for students with visual or hearing impairments to access the curriculum.

3. Stigma and Discrimination: Students with disabilities often face stigma and discrimination from their peers and teachers, which can lead to social isolation and decreased self-esteem.

4. Inadequate Support: Many schools lack the necessary resources and support to provide individualized education plans (IEPs) and accommodations for students with disabilities.
