Changemakersaathi माँ: Indrani Basu

Indrani Basu is the Head of Parent Empowerment and Trainings and a governing body member at Action For Autism, New Delhi, India.  She is a certified special educator with a specialization in autism, Indrani has over two decades of experience in working with autistic individuals across ages and abilities.

Indrani mentors and trains families, special educators, school teachers, carries out training workshops and sensitization programs for parents and educators, in schools, for corporates and with civic bodies. She has played a key role in setting up autism specific services in various cities in India. She has also developed and authored resource material for parents and professionals in this sector. Indrani is also a parent to an adult autistic son.


Indrani Basu’s story is one of dedication, passion, and perseverance in advocating for individuals with autism and their families in India. For over two decades, Indrani has been working with autistic individuals of all ages and abilities, and her expertise and commitment have made a significant impact in the field of autism intervention and support.

Indrani’s journey began when she became a parent to a son with Autism, who is now an adult. Her personal experience of navigating the challenges of raising a child with autism gave her a unique perspective and deep empathy for families dealing with similar challenges. She decided to devote her life to helping other families who were struggling with the same issues.

Indrani’s work at Action for Autism (AFA) in New Delhi, India, has been instrumental in raising awareness and understanding of autism in India. As the Head of Parent Empowerment and Trainings, Indrani has been mentoring and training families, special educators, school teachers, and conducting training workshops and sensitization programs for parents and educators in schools, corporates, and civic bodies.
