Friendship a rare gift of life- post by Ashuti Menon

This piece happened for two reasons…

One because I believe friends are the family we choose, and I’ve been blessed to find some wonderful gems in my journey…

The second reason is that my 18 year old son who’s on the Autistic spectrum, a promising, bright young guy in every way, has always struggled with making friends or maintaining friendships. I hope at some time in life, he’s able to find his tribe, and feel the joy that friendship brings.

What is friendship like? If I could paint a picture, it would be like this..

Running barefoot on grass
On a sunny morning,
In a green meadow surrounded by flowers.
Amidst butterflies flitting around,
And the soothing humming of the bees.

Sometimes it’s like the pink that adorns the greyish blue sky,
When dusk takes over.

What about the rainbow at the end of a gloomy rainy day?
It brightens the sky with it’s beautiful hues,
And offers hope for a better tomorrow.

Many a times it warms your heart like a hot cup of coffee
On a cold winter evening.
And the memories are like a warm blanket,
That encompass you till you feel everything’s fine again.

'Live your life so that when it’s time to ask where the time went, you can answer: “It went to joyful moments with family and friends, to my search for passion, to doing work that felt like play, to standing up for what I believe in, and to exploring this beautiful world we live in with an open heart. My time went to LIVING my life!' -unknown
